Slowly it all Crumbles Away
Sound and text installation

Slovenia is situated in the south of the Eurasian tectonic plate at the junction of three important tectonic zones: the Alps to the north, the Dinaric Alps to the south and the Pannonian Basin to the east. Due to this Slovenia is subjected to a high amount of seismic activity. Many parts of Slovenia is furthermore resting on carbonate ground, and in the rocks extensive cave systems have developed, sometimes undermining the ground. In some regions of the country it is not an unusual occurrence when a section of land suddenly disappears into a cave below.

With a Prime Minister that during the exhibition period (October 2012) was on trial for corruption charges and an economy in free fall, the general feeling among the citizens of Slovenia was one of resignation and hopelessness. The fact that the bedrock beneath them is slowly crumbling away grain by grain hasn't been bothering the Slovenians much (the phenomenon is after all the cause of many spectacular caves that has been attracting tourists to the country for many years) but with an imminent threat of economic collapse a sense of entropy and disintegration has settled among the population.

For the installation the sound piece Umbra was used as a soundtrack. Listen to a sample (mp3): CLICK HERE
